We require a minimum of 1 (one) hour to provide a comprehensive session that will address the audiences needs and allow for a maximum question and answer segment. Assistive Technology: Strategies and Solutions for People with Disabilities
Assistive Technology offers hope and practical solutions for many people to accomplish their educational, employment and independent living goals. The key to effective implementation of AT for people with disabilities depends on a basic understanding of the individual’s strength’s and goals, principles in effective AT implementation, creative approaches in successfully matching individuals with AT, and finding funding solutions for the AT solutions.

Assistive Technology Funding
You know what assistive technology is needed, now how are you going to buy it? Funding for assistive technology is often a major barrier for many individuals with disabilities. Georgia has funding for AT. This session will explore specific funding sources and how to successfully "navigate the streams" to get AT into the hands of Georgian’s with disabilities. We will utilize tools such as the gatfl.org web-based Funding Guide, Dollars & Sense, to explore new and established funding streams available for AT and gTrade, Georgia’s Online Equipment Exchange Resource.
AAC & Autism: iPads, iPhones, & Tablets as AAC Devices
AAC APPS compared
Today individuals with disabilities and their families are using emerging technologies such as iPads, iPods, iPhones, & tablets for communication. However, things are not as straightforward as they might appear. This presentation reviews the opportunities that these technologies provide. The issues that using these devices for this purpose may raise will be discussed. We will examine how to apply the best practice process of selecting technology can be applied to the selection of an App. A look ahead at the technology trends will give us perspective on where we might go from here.

This interactive session will cover basic disability-related content and focus on building skills. Topics that will be covered include: Value-laden language, Understanding the relationship between Words, Attitudes and Actions and Etiquette. Activities include an Ask-it Basket Discussion Q & A time. Resources will be provided, including tips and strategies to "Keep the Conversation Going."
disAbility 101 & 102
This presentation covers disAbility 101 topics and extends into the next level of relationships with people with disabilities and overcoming stereotypes. Topics include tolerance, intolerance, acceptance, tokenism, lack of empathy, perception, active participation in oppression, stopping oppression and celebrating differences. This session is interactive and requires full audience participation. A 2 (two) hour minimum is required.

During this presentation, participants will learn how to coordinate an assistive technology conference in their own state by collaborating with different partners. Individuals will learn how to find the perfect location, create a budget, utilize current AT vendors and assistive technology resource centers to form a hands-on and exciting exhibit hall, expect the unexpected and much more! They will also have the opportunity to hear about lessons learned.

Strategies and Solutions for Individuals with Autism
This presentation covers the history of Autism, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Aspergers Syndrome (AS). Topics addressed include signs, symptoms and characteristics of Autism, social interaction, successful employment and examples of real life success for job coaching and other tools. This session also shares information on the Tools for Life (TFL) program and examples of assistive technology (AT) for those with Autism.
iPads, Tablets, and Apps
This session covers introduces you to Apps, Widgets and various Tablets. Accessibility features that come standard with iPads, iPod Touches and other Tablets will be discussed as well as a few favorite Apps that can assist individuals with disabilities to be more independent. Resources will be shared such as the Tools for Life database that will make searching for disability related Apps easier.

Come find out how Tech-Able, Walton Options, Disability Connections, Touch the Future (ReBoot-ATRC), FODAC and Tools for Life can assist You! Georgia’s AT Act Program is funded by the Federal Tech Act. This legislation promotes direct Assistive Technology services to individuals with disabilities. Our goal is to increase independence for Georgians with disabilities by providing access to and acquisition of Assistive Technology. Georgia’s Assistive Technology Resource Center’s, ReBoot and FODAC programs are fulfilling the intent of the Tech Act through their AT Lending Library, Demonstration services and AT, DME and Computer Reuse. This session will share how you and the individuals you work with can benefit from these programs.
