TECHPOINT
5 - Placement/Follow-up (Status 20, 22)
What to Accomplish:
Use technology-related resources/services to enable a worker with a disability to perform essential job functions at their employment site or improve the ability to obtain, maintain, or advance in employment.
Consideration of technology resources and services frequently comes up when individuals are ready for employment. Employers are usually most concerned with two issues - productivity and costs. AWT involvement can help to address accommodation questions that may arise and work with employers on productivity and cost concerns.
- Has a job analysis been completed?
- If there are job match problems, are the problems with
- the
individual;
- the physical
environment;
- essential job
tasks;
- workstation;
or
- other aspects of the job?
- Is the employer willing to consider making accommodations?
- Are there requests for accommodations that the employer is unwilling to provide?
- Would the use of technology resources or services solve the problem?
- Are there essential functions of job that the consumer cannot perform?
If any of these questions point to technology-related services, the counselor or account rep should contact AWT to review the situation.
