Plan Development - Tech Points

Technology resources and services should be included in determination of vocational goals and objectives and all aspects of the IPE planning process. If comprehensive assessment is included within Plan Development (Status 10), consideration of AWT support should be included.

The IPE - Individualized Plan for Employment - guides the direction of the entire rehabilitation process. This makes it important that consideration of technology-related services be an integral part of the formulation and periodic reviews that make-up the planning process. The work plan should be sufficiently detailed to clearly explain any conditions or restrictions in regards to AWT-related purchases or activities. Financial need guidelines, and how they could effect AT equipment, should be considered at the planning phase and throughout the rehabilitation process.

For example, a computer purchased for an individual should not have additional, unauthorized software installed since this could create problems and lead to system failure. This information should be conveyed to the consumer in the Plan and on the Tools and Agreement Form.
